The incident has left the internet divided on the limits of freedom of speech and institutional bullying.
The Watchdog Foundation, a group supporting Christian interests, recently filed an FIR against popular pub Goregaon Social alleging that its interiors were "blasphemous".
The pub refers to itself as "The Cathedral of anti-consumerism" on its Facebook page.

The venue used to be surrounded by satirical images of religious figures, such as Jesus Christ holding a leather bag and Moses holding a tablet PC.

Following the FIR, the pub also came under fire from the Archdiocese of Bombay, which demanded that its licences be revoked until the images were taken down.
Online petitions also started demanding action against the owners.
A lot of people sided with the owners once news broke, claiming that an FIR was too harsh a response.
